Compassionate Stakes

This year the Compassionate Stakes is BACK IN THE CITY! Little Oak Sanctuary brings the most joy-filled, smile-inducing, relaxed, inclusive way to spend your afternoon and say NUP TO THE CUP!  Get ready for the most fun Canberra has seen since prehistoric times, with no animal cruelty necessary, with our series of novelty races using giant inflatable T-Rex costumes!

There will be information about Little Oak Sanctuary, food and super fun and fabulous unstructured fashion off-the-field competition overseen by three of Canberra's drag superstars!  All proceeds from race entries go to help the animals of Little Oak Sanctuary, including three racing industry survivors, Lucky, Astrid & Didge.

 

Event Details 

What? an afternoon of cruelty-free fun 

6 x novelty races of folks in inflatable t-rex costumes, fashion off-the-field comps, information stalls, food and FUN!

Why? having fun shouldn't involve cruelty 

One horse dies on Australian race tracks every three days.  More and more people are deciding that entertainment that relies on others having a  terrible time is no fun. We all enjoy getting dressed up and having a  good time with friends, but watching animals suffer is no one's cup of tea.

 T-Rex Races 

6 Races | 5-10 Competitors per race | 75m Distance (approx) | Inflatable T-Rex Costume hire included.

 Race 1: The Big Bang (12:30pm) 

This is where it all starts! Guaranteed to leave no Saur losers, grab some friends and sign up today! 

• Big Bang race distance is approximately 75 metres.  
• Five spots are available (YOUR CHANCES OF VICTORY ARE GREAT!);
• Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd female and 1st, 2nd & 3rd male.
• Winning participants go to the final at 3pm

 Race 2: dino-dash (1:00pm) 

Horse racing has done its dash - now it's time for you to do yours! grab some colleagues and see who's the most superior dino-racer in your office! sign up today! 

• Dino Dash Race distance, approximately 75 metres. 
• Five spots are available (YOUR CHANCES OF VICTORY ARE GREAT!);
• Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd male and 1st, 2nd  & 3rd female.
• Winning participants go to the final at 3pm

 Race 3: Reptilian Relay (1:30pm) 

Co-dependent?  Not like to do things without your BFF? This is the race for you! sign up with your buddy and relay race in T-Rex costumes for GLORY! 

• Relay Race distance, approximately 150 metres. 
• Max 4 teams of 2 (8 Rex Suits available to hire - your chances are great!). 
• Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd team (open to everyone)
• Winning participants go to the final at 3pm

 Race 4: T-Rex trials (2:00pm) 

More known as a fast thinker than a fast mover? This race will demonstrate your superior brainpower as you navigate a series of trivia puzzles in your T-Rex suit. 

• Race distance approximately 75m, 
• Five spots are available (YOUR CHANCES OF VICTORY ARE GREAT!);
• prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd person to finish with all sections completed successfully.
• Winning participants go to the final at 3pm

  Race 5: Pterodactyl Tear away (2:30pm)  

Get ready to set some land speed records, or at least look hilarious trying!

• Race distance approximately 75m, 
• Five spots are available (YOUR CHANCES OF VICTORY ARE GREAT!); 
• prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd person to finish with all sections completed successfully.
• Winning participants go to the final at 3pm

 Race 6: Compassionate stakes (3pm) 

The race you've been waiting for! The GRAND FINALE! Watch the winners from races: The Big Bang, Dino-Dash, Reptilian Relay, T-Rex Trials and the Pterodactyl Tear away battle it out for the ultimate victory - winner of the 2022 Compassionate  Stakes! Who will take this year's cup and steal glory? (Entry to this race is via winning races 1 through 5).
