Give Animals Safety This Summer

This summer, hundreds of animals will need our help — and we can only be there because of you.

At  Little Oak Sanctuary, we care for over 330 rescued animals. They depend  on us daily for food, water, shelter, and vet care. As temperatures  soar, dams dry up, and feed prices rise, your compassion is what keeps  them safe. Will you give to help animals survive this summer? Please donate by December 1st to help us save lives.

Sunny’s Story: Fighting for His Life

I’ll never forget the night I met Sunny.

He was a young sheep found lying alone in a paddock, too weak to stand. His wool had grown so thick it covered his eyes, blinding him on one side. His frail body was crawling with maggots, his skin raw and burning from infection. He had been left behind to die a slow, lonely and agonizing death.

As the sun sank behind the hills, I drove for hours to meet the kind person who had found him. When I lifted Sunny’s limp body into my arms, I could feel every bone beneath his filthy, prickly fleece. The smell of his wounds — hot, sour, alive with infection — is something I’ll never forget.

I wrapped him in blankets and drove straight to the after-hours emergency vet, praying the whole way that he’d hold on. At the clinic, under the harsh light of the exam room, his body lay completely still on the table. For a moment, I feared he was already gone.

The vet moved quickly, checking his pulse, starting fluids, and preparing pain relief. We carefully trimmed back the wool that had grown over his eyes. One eye had ruptured from the pressure, leaving him blind. His side was raw and bleeding where the maggots had eaten through his flesh. He was so emaciated, so weak, so near death.

The vet did all they could do, it was now down to Sunny, and whether he had the strength to pull through. We carefully placed him in the van and drove him home. Then, we settled him into clean bedding in the stable. That night, we didn’t know if he’d live until morning.

But when the sun rose, Sunny lifted his head and gave the faintest bleat. He was still with us. Knowing someone was on his side had been enough to make Sunny keep fighting.

That small sound — soft and trembling — was a reminder of why we do what we do.

Sunny has a chance to survive because we were there to help. And we were there because of people like you.

As we head into summer, we know that more animals like Sunny will need urgent rescue and care. Heat, drought, and rising feed costs push more animals into crisis. Every week, we receive calls to help abandoned, injured, or starving animals. Requests used to come only from our area. Now, we often get asked to help animals from many hours away.

When others turn them away, your support allows us to say yes.

Because of you, lambs like Sunny get a second chance at life.

Why Your Help Is Needed Now

This summer will be one of our toughest yet.

  • Feed and hay costs are rising fast, and we’re using more every week to keep 330 animals fed and healthy.

  • Our water supplies are dwindling. With more animals in care and hotter days ahead, we urgently need to expand our water storage with more rainwater tanks.

  • Calls for help arrive every day. More animals are being abandoned or left to suffer as people struggle with the cost of care.

  • Local shelters and rescues are full. Many animals now have nowhere else to turn.

We  can't provide the feed, water, and medical care our rescued animals  need without your help. These resources are vital for keeping them safe  during the tough months ahead.

Your gift today makes the difference between suffering and safety. Between life and death.
