Molly the Mule's incredible journey through surgery and recovery has shown us the remarkable resilience of the animals we care for. In honour of Molly's fighting spirit, we have created Molly's Medical Mission, an ongoing campaign that will fund future large animal surgeries, emergency vet care, and, ideally, the hiring of a dedicated vet professional on staff at the sanctuary. This is a vital next step for our sanctuary and we hope you can join in supporting Molly's mission to ensure all of the animals who come through our gates receive the absolute best care possible, for life.
MOLLY'S JOURNEY FOR LIFE SAVING SURGERY - FEB 2025
UPDATE: MOLLY'S SURGERY SUCCESS!
With the help of 88 amazing people, we raised enough to cover Molly's surgery and immediate aftercare. A biopsy of the growth has been sent away for testing and we nervously await the results, and her recovery treatment continues.
We Need Your Help for Molly
Right now, we need your help for critical care of one of our residents
Molly, an incredibly sweet mule who was saved from neglect just after the 2019/20 bushfires, is facing a serious health crisis. Over the past month we have been trying to get to the cause of her ongoing wheeze. This week we finally had a camera scope down her airways and our worst fears were realised. She has a growth—suspected to be a granuloma—obstructing her airway, making it difficult for her to breathe. She will be transported for urgent surgery under the expert care of Willinga Vet Hospital on Monday, and will need to stay in care for several days while she recovers. Her buddy Phoenix the mini-horse will be travelling and staying with her to minimise her stress at being separated from her friends. If all goes well, Molly will then require regular scoping of her airways for the next year to ensure it does not return. We are so grateful that she's been able to be slotted in for surgery so quickly, we are very hopeful that it will give her the best chance at a full and healthy life.
We need to raise funds to cover Molly’s medical care, transport and accommodation. This is a critical, lifesaving intervention, and we can’t do it without you.
Please, if you can, donate today to help Molly get the urgent care she needs. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us give her the chance she deserves.
Thank you for standing with us—and for Molly. ❤️
With love, gratitude, and hope,
Kate & James

Regular donors and one off donations keep our residents fed, happy and healthy, but for major projects, our progress is limited by contributions that we receive above and beyond our baseline operational costs. If you are keen to make a major contribution let us know, below are the types of projects on our "to do" list, if they sound like something you'd like to support, please drop us a line, we're keen to discuss how we can show our appreciation to you or your organisation!
Bridge upgrades - $50,000
Our bridge provides a lifeline to the sanctuary, allowing two wheel access to the property and ensuring even during times of extended flooding, we are not cut off for very long. We need to undertake significant upgrades on the bridge that include large amounts of concreting to ensure that with each flooding event, the access to our bridge is not swept away or damaged.
Additional Volunteer Accommodation - $50,000
At present, we can support up to three on site volunteers to help us with the day to day operations at the sanctuary. We are working towards purchasing a second accommodation building that will allow us to double this capacity.
Solar Lighting for Stables & Visitors Centre Stage 3 - $30,000
The sanctuary is powered via an off grid solar electricity system. As our facilities have increased, so have our demands for power and we desperately need to upgrade our solar battery system to allow us to provide heating in our stables and ensure consistent power source over the winter with its shorter, often cloudy days.
Water Tanks - $12,000
Climate Change is real, and with tank & dam water being the only source of water for our residents we are looking to place a water tank off each of our animal shelters to capture the valuable liquid that falls from the sky!
Additional Shelters - $12,000
In order for each of our existing paddocks to have a shelter, we need to construct 3 more, at around $4,000 each.
