Pablo Pigcasso

“Others have seen what is and asked why. I have seen what could be and asked why not. ” ~ Pablo Picasso
Birth Date: 12 Nov 2013                          Arrival: 12 Mar 2014

In March of 2014, a lost little piggy found his way to Blacktown Pound, NSW. This little piggy was not someone to let the opportunity to make a new friend pass him by, and this little guy won the heart of the staff and several rescue groups who came to visit the pound.

Pablo had been someone's pet pig, very likely purchased as a pet 'miniature pig'.  The pound traced his previous family, but they refused to take him back, leaving poor Pablo was in a perilous position.  It was through another rescue group that we heard of his plight and welcomed him as a new resident of Little Oak Sanctuary.

When he arrived, Pablo was only 30kg, a fraction of the size of Dr Seuss or Heavenly Hiraani Tiger piggy, but we knew he would grow, and grow he did! Pablo is a smaller breed of pig, but even these will grow to around 150kg, which is the size Pablo is now.

Pablo is best friends with Lucy pig but shares a paddock with Albert Sweinstein, Polly Piggins, Lucy and Patsy Swine. An amiable, friendly fellow, he gets along with everyone, and will regularly be seen giving belly rubs to the other pigs with his snout.

The plight of pigs sold as miniatures is a massive issue in Australia and other countries.  It is easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of animals impacted.  Whilst understanding why this is an issue is imperative; it's also vital not to lose sight of the way the world could be.  Our mission focuses on building a more compassionate world.  A world where not just pigs, but all animals, are viewed as beings with inherent value. Please help us create it.

You can sponsor Pablo and his friends below.

Sponsor a Pig

Pigs are the flagship species for Little Oak – indeed it was a pig who inspired us to start the sanctuary and of all animals, they hold a very special significance to us. Pigs are amazing beings, they are smart, funny characters, sadly we rarely get to see them as the individuals they are. Today, over 5 million pigs are confined in sheds across the country each year. Their lives are short and filled with suffering - but it doesn't have to be this way.

When you sponsor a pig you will be helping protect pigs. Your sponsorship will support Little Oak's essential advocacy work – sharing the stories of individual pigs and the plight of their kind across the nation.

Sponsor today, and we'll take you on a journey to learn more about pigs through our regular updates - exclusive only to our monthly sponsors. We'll also keep you up to date on how your monthly gifts are helping to secure a brighter future for the pigs at Little Oak, and their kind across Australia.
